Deadlifts! What are they and Why should i?

What are deadlifts?

Deadlift is the name given to movement from when a barbel is lifted from a half squat position, into an upright position lifted to the hips, then lowered back down. It is a power lifting workout that works greatly on core and stamina.,
Deadlifts are the single, most effective movement for training the posterior chain(bum, inner, outer, mid thighs and inner thighs. (see insert).

They require minimum equipment. (just the bar and weights)

The gluteus and hamstrings (bum and thighs) are made of what we call the fast twitch fibres, these muscle fibres provide a lot of strength and speed within a short time.
Deadlifts works more muscles simultaneously! even more than squats!

Advantages

  • They train your core and strengthen then for more power!
  • Training these muscles enable a better poster, stance and a quicker movement.
  • They train your back muscle, contract them, so your posture is upright, and not bent forward
  • A good deadlft session burns a lot of fat and you can be sure to see the progress in no time!
  • Its has minimal safety concerns, compared to squats or bench presses, where you have a weight that could mount on you.
  • It is used in everyday life, from picking up boxes to carrying your toddler.
  • It works like a cardio routine, raising your heart rate and burns a lot of fat!

Are they for me?

Deadlifts can be done by anyone! They strengthen your lower muscles!

Knee Injury?

One of the long term benefits of Deadlifts are they help to strengthen your bum and thighs without adding pressure to your knees! So, if you hate or simply cannot the the squat, Deadlift it!

Back problems?

Talk to your GP!

Make sure if you do go ahead with doing deadlift, you get a qualified trainer to spot you and support you! keep your back straight at all times! and do not arch them!

If advisable, start with just a bar, see how you feel, and slowly progress by adding 2.5-5kg each time!

It will in the long run strengthen your posterior chain, hold your spine in a better alignment and give you the arch that makes the joint between your upper and your lower body look more sexy!
